How to Remove Black Walnut Stains?

First off, we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that the best way to avoid black walnut stain is to eat English walnuts instead. We suggest the tasty Chandler variety grown by Chandler Orchards.

However, if you’ve been cracking black walnuts chances are that you’ve not only given yourself a cramp, but you’ve also stained your hands. Black walnut shells are rock hard, unlike the English walnut’s soft shell. Removing a black walnut stain is not difficult, but you’ll need to get a few easy to locate household items:

Items Needed

Soap & water
Lemon
Toothpaste & Toothbrush
Cooking Oil

Steps

Step 1 - Wash your hands:

Make sure to get rid of any loose shell residue. After you clean your hands thoroughly, you will have a better idea of how much walnut stain you need to remove.

Step 2 - Squeeze the lemon:

Extract the juice and rub it in your hands or whatever other area of your skin was stained. The acid in the lemon will lighten the stained area on your skin and restore a more natural appearance. You can skip this step if you have especially dry skin.

Step 3 - Use the toothbrush:

Use a toothpaste with baking soda and an old toothbrush to scrub at the stain using a circular motion. Continue scrubbing until the stain begins to dissipate.

Step 4 - Rub-in the cooking oil:

You can use vegetable oil or olive oil, either will work just fine. Just be sure to rub the oil in gently. Several rounds may be needed, especially if you did not apply lemon juice in the previous step.

Step 5 - Wash your hands again:

Finally, wash your hands normally. Use soap and water to wash your hands and clean up after applying lemon and oil. Dry your hands with a towel after washing.
You may need to repeat the entire process two or three times until the stain is fully removed. Now that you’ve removed the stain, it’s time to enjoy your black walnuts. And if you want less hassle next time, just buy some delicious English walnuts.
